St. Patrick’s Rowing Club jets off to Portugal to take part in the World Rowing Coastal Championships.
Two crews from St. Patrick’s Rowing Club will represent Ringsend and Ireland on the world stage for the World Rowing Coastal Championships in Portugal this week. This is the first time that St. Patrick’s Rowing Club has competed at this landmark world rowing event.
Philip Murphy the Chairman of St.Patrick’s Rowing Club said “We’re thrilled to be taking part in this world rowing competition. There has been a lot of hard work done behind the scenes to make this happen both on and off the water. It’s a proud moment for our club's history and we wish our athletes the best luck on behalf of the committee and club”.
St. Patrick’s Rowing Club has two crews and two boat classes taking part. The boats are a coastal quad (4 people + coxswain) and a double (2 people). St. Michael's Rowing Club in Dún Laoghaire joined forces with St. Patrick’s Rowing Club to create a composite mixed crew in the double boat. The rowers are Niall O’Toole and Davinia Anderson.
The quad crew is made up of St. Patrick’s Rowing Club members Niall Beggan, Niall O’Toole, Karl Montgomery, Derek Boland and Lisa Lamont (Coxswain/Cairndhu Rowing Club).
The 2021 edition of the World Rowing Coastal Championships will take place in Oeiras, Portugal, from 1-3 October. There are 34 crews from 18 Rowing Ireland clubs participating, with crews in each of the seven events.
